An IPSC holster must fit the firearm, retain it securely and comply with the rules for the chosen division. Its mounting position matters as much as the holster itself. This guide explains the main checks and the differences between common equipment options.
Core IPSC Holster Requirements
Section 5.2 of the 2026 IPSC Handgun Rules covers holsters and equipment. A holster must prevent access to and activation of the trigger, and it must not require the trigger finger to operate its release. Generally, the heel of the handgun's butt must not sit below the top of the belt. When the competitor stands relaxed, the muzzle must not point at the ground farther than one metre from their feet.
Exceptions and division-specific provisions apply. Consult the current IPSC rulebooks and interpretations and ask the match officials if a configuration is uncertain.
Open competition designs such as the DAA Flex and moulded holsters offer different forms of support and coverage. Evaluate the exact combination of firearm, holster and mount. Browse our IPSC equipment.

Division-Specific Fit and Position
IPSC and USPSA use different division names and equipment rules. Do not transfer Carry Optics or Limited advice directly into an IPSC setup.
Production and Production Optics
These divisions specify a 50 mm equipment-distance limit, measured under Rule 5.2.5. Position must also comply with Appendix E2. Check the complete mounted configuration, not just the holster shell.
A moulded option such as the Panneltac OWB Holster must be assessed with its chosen mount. The Panneltac HDM-1 offers adjustment, but an available adjustment position is not automatically a permitted competition position.
Specialised Competition Systems
Double Alpha Academy provides purpose-designed competition equipment. Open construction and adjustable mounting can help fit the equipment to the user. Check the rules of the actual division; Open, Standard and other divisions do not have identical requirements.
Holsters and Mounting Options
- Safariland: the Gravity OWB is a moulded option. The QLS kit allows movement between compatible mounts, but also adds distance between holster and belt.
- DAA Flex: its two adjustable insert types, Type A and Type B, accommodate a range of compatible pistols. It does not necessarily require a separate model-specific insert for every firearm. Select and adjust the appropriate insert according to DAA's compatibility instructions.
- G-Code and Panneltac: options such as the G-Code Prime Carry provide alternatives for users who prefer a conventional shell. Verify firearm fit and the complete competition configuration.
- Bravo Concealment: assess trigger coverage, retention and mounting stability in the same way. Brand or price alone does not establish competition compliance.
A Stable Belt System
A suitable belt supports the holster without excessive flex or movement. A two-part system pairs an inner belt with a rigid outer belt. Our tactical belt guide discusses the general layout considerations.
The DAA Lynx Belt can be paired with a compatible DAA Premium Inner Belt. Magazine options include the DAA X-Ray Aluminum Pouch and DAA Magnetic Magazine Pouch. Position them according to the relevant division rules.

Check the Complete Setup
A thigh strap is not a general IPSC stability solution: Rule 5.2.7.1 normally prohibits tie-down rigs, subject to specified exceptions. Use a suitable belt and mounting system and have uncertain configurations checked before the match.
ESTTAC stocks competition equipment and holsters for different applications. IPSC and SRA requirements should be checked separately. See each product page for availability and delivery information.
