What’s in our red dot sight range?
- Aimpoint Acro: the Acro P-2 and Acro C-2 have enclosed emitters, aluminium housings and CR2032 batteries. The battery compartment is accessible from the side.
- Shield SMS, SMS2 and SMSc: polymer-bodied reflex sights with automatic brightness adjustment. The SMS2 and SMSc listings include polymer-lens versions; the SMSc is the compact member of this group.
- Shield RMSc, RMS2 and RMSx: aluminium-bodied options with automatic brightness adjustment. The RMSc has a compact housing, while the RMSx has a larger lens. Lens material varies by model and selected version.
- Shield RMSd: the RMSd uses a CR1632 battery and a side-access battery drawer. This is a different battery arrangement from the CR2032-powered RMS2.
- Shield AMS-MR: the AMS-MR has a glass lens, six selectable reticles, 12 manual brightness levels and a three-stage automatic mode.
- Shield RMSw and RMSw HD: waterproof-design models within the RMS family. Their sealing requirements matter; follow the manufacturer’s conditions rather than treating the model name as an unconditional waterproof guarantee.
Glass or polymer lens? Check the selected version
Housing material and lens material are separate specifications. An aluminium-bodied sight can still have a polymer lens. Our Shield RMSd, RMSx and RMSw listings include glass and polymer variants, while the RMSc listing currently specifies a glass lens. Check the selected variant before ordering, particularly if you are replacing an older model with a familiar name.
Batteries and everyday maintenance
Most of the sights in this selection use a CR2032 battery, but there are exceptions. The Shield RMSd takes a CR1632. The AMS-MR supports different battery sizes with the corresponding battery caps. If battery access is important to you, compare the side-access Acro, RMSd and AMS-MR designs with the underside battery compartments on models such as the RMS2.
A quoted battery-life figure also needs its conditions. Aimpoint’s 50,000-hour figure for these Acro models is specified at brightness setting 6. It should not be read as the runtime at every setting or in every environment.

A sight, a mounting plate and a protective hood are separate products in this collection. The Aimpoint Acro C-2 listing includes the sight, a CR2032 battery and an Aimpoint adjustment tool; a mount is not included. Other packages differ. Use the individual product’s contents list, and have mounting suitability confirmed by a qualified professional before purchase.
Red dot sights: frequently asked questions
The Aimpoint Acro P-2 and C-2 use CR2032 batteries. Shield SMS, SMS2, SMSc, RMSc, RMS2, RMSx and RMSw also use CR2032. The Shield RMSd uses CR1632. AMS-MR supports CR2025, CR2032 or CR2050 with the corresponding battery cap; check which cap is supplied with your chosen package.
The SMS, SMS2, SMSc, RMSc, RMS2, RMSd, RMSx and RMSw models in this range have automatic brightness adjustment. The AMS-MR offers both 12 manual brightness levels and a three-stage automatic mode. Check the exact model rather than assuming the same controls across the brand.
No. The SMS family uses polymer housings, while models in the RMS family use aluminium housings. Lens material is a separate choice: our RMSd, RMSx and RMSw listings have glass and polymer variants. The current RMSc variant is listed with a glass lens.
Not in our current Acro C-2 package. It includes the sight, a CR2032 battery and an Aimpoint adjustment tool. A mounting plate appearing elsewhere in this collection is a separate purchase, not part of that package.
